Jeremey's Monkey Ride 2012

5TH JUL 2012 - JEREMY’S MONKEY RIDE 2012

Harley Owner's Group Magazine

H.O.G. members are renowned for their charity work, and later this month one keen rider from the UK will be undertaking a very special journey. Jeremy Keeling, Animal Director at Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre in Wareham, Dorset, will be retracing the journey that Monkey World's very first primates took 25 years ago.

In 1987, the park was set up to provide a permanent stable home for abused Spanish chimpanzees. The first nine chimpanzees arrived on July 14 of that year from Barcelona, and Jeremy will be riding from Barcelona back to Monkey World, a distance of approximately 900 miles, to raise money for the centre. From its modest beginnings, Monkey World has flourished; not only are all but one of the original chimpanzees still alive and thriving, but the park is now the largest primate rescue centre in the world, with more than 240 primates of 17 different species.

Jeremy will be undertaking this solo challenge on his beloved Harley-Davidson Night Rod Special, which he has owned for five years. He says: “I wanted to do my bit and have always had a passion for motorbikes. It’s a very relevant journey as I’ve never actually been to the place the chimpanzees were rescued from. It’s the perfect opportunity to do something I love and raise money at the same time.”

Watch this space to find out how Jeremy fares on his gruelling challenge – there will also be a brief summary in the autumn edition of HOG magazine, and a full article in the winter issue.
